The lesson

The theme has a lesson like many dystopian stories should, and it uses the internal conflict Linda has throughout the story about what she had just done to show that even if people tell you something is a good thing, that it doesn't always mean you'll see it the same way they do. It's a lot like a poison mushroom, they are hyped up because of the bright colors and you're attracted by what you see, but once you touch it the effect it has on you isn't nearly the same as the appearance of how you once saw it, it changes your mind.
