Eastern garter snake, Thamnophis Sirtalis

Eastern garter snakes have a variable coloration, mostly gray, brown, or greenish, with yellow stripes down its back. These snakes grow to 2 to 4 feet. Garter snakes are found almost anywhere, in fields, marshes, woods, parks, yards, and gardens. These reptiles feed on small animals and insects. Garter snakes will release bad smells when they feel frightened, this is a defense mechanism. Garter snakes hibernate in the winter and reproduce in mid to late summer.
