Music Career
- The first band Goodman joined was at Hull House, which was a settlement house that provided social services to the community.
- Proving his talent, he became a member of the American Federation of Musicians at age 14 and abandoned his education to pursue music.
- He quickly moved to New York City and found work on radio shows, and in pit orchestras on Broadway.
- Decided to form his own band, and became a regular on the hit radio show, "Let's dance."
- His popularity kept growing so he hit the road and toured in Los Angeles, this concert was the premier of swing music
- Goodman began integrating his bands, slowly breaking down the color barrier.
- Performed at Carnegie Hall in 1938, this was the first time swing music was displayed on this level.
