*Little is known about the Goodman family because they were immigrants who were too busy to keep diaries and records.

~Benny's parents are David and Dora Goodman

~ David is from Poland and Dora is from Lithuania. They are both Jewish and came to America in search for better opportunities.

~ After arriving in Baltimore, the two met and had three children, Lena, Louis, and Morris.

~ Later, the family moved to Chicago to find jobs. It is believed that David worked in the stockyards for some

time, became a tailor, and worked a newsstand while Dora stayed home and cared for the children.

~ The family grew larger when Dora had nine more children, Ida, Ethel, Harry, Freddy, Mary, Benny, Irving, Eugene, and Jerome.

~ The family was very poor and experienced terrible living conditions.
