When was the first Olympics? The first Olympics was in 1896 in Athens Greece. The Olympic Games were held from April 5 through April 16. Did this Olympics give out gold medals? The answer is no they didn't they gave out silver medals. Athens did not want to host the games at first because they at no experience with sporting events and they didn't have enough money to pay until this guy named Stephanos Skouloudis payed them 3,740,000 gold drachmas.
