What was the 1972 Olympics? The 1972 olympics was Germany's first Olympics since 1932 when hitler held it in Berlin. So Germany wanted to have peace with all of the other countries. So to have this Germany got rid of most of the security. Then on opening day since there wasn't that much security so 8 black September members broke into the place where the Israel athletes were staying and took 11 hostage. 2 hostages were killed right away and the other kept alive. The terrorists were dressed as cops and garbage men so it was hard to tell if they were terrorist. The 8 black September members wanted 200 other terrorist to be released from Israel jails. They also wanted agree ride out of Germany. The polices plan was to let them have two helicopters and the let them fly to their plane which would fly them out of Germany but shoot them before they could get on the plane. The police had snipers on the roof and where ready to go. So when they opened fire on the terrorist one of them pulled out a grenade which blew up one of the helicopters and killed half of the hostages then the other terrorists killed all of the other hostages. And when the smoke cleared 1 German cop was dead and all the hostages and terrorist were dead.
