Was the movement a success of failure?

The common school movement did not address the issue of racial exclusion and segregation. African American parents and their political allies had to challenge the whites-only schools and school districts. Only for their reforms to be partial, but not lasting. Catholics set up their own system of parochial schools for fear of religious and anti-immigrant discrimination.

Look at public schools here today

Besides the issues with race, the movement can be considered a success. Public schools are a commodity today and it is now mandatory for every American child to receive an education Members of both genders are allowed to go to college and even the impaired can get an education.
