The main conditions God had established were quite clear, and if you think about it, not quite hard. All the people had to accomplish were following the commandments, statues, and ordinances. If they were faithful then the Lord would live among them, yet there was irony after Moses arrived down the mountain to witness that the Israelites were celebrating an idol, already breaking a few laws. In his rage at this Moses smashes the commandments.

The Lord will coexist along side the Israelites as long as they follow faithfully the laws, commandments, and decrees of His. ( Deuteronomy 7:11)
