The symbol would be the Ten Commandments as they are the basis of what is expected of the Israelite in the agreement. As Moses entered the presence of God, the Lord wrote the Ten Commandments on a tablet and would expect the laws to be obeyed or else terrible consequences would be inflicted upon the Israelites since in order for the Lord to do His part they had to do their part by following the Decalogue.

The commandments were written as the cornerstone for what would be done on the part of the Israelites, for in a covenant their are responsibilities for either party to fulfill.
