The development of penicillin

Dr. Howard Florey had to learn how to isolate and purify penicillin and learn what it was affective against. Over the summer of 1940 he tested his findings on 50 mice  that had been infected with staphylococcus, afterward half of the mice were injected with penicillin, the mice injected with the penicillin lived.
