Penicillin was introduced in the 1940s, it began the era of antibiotics, and it is one of the greatest advancements in medicine. The discovery of penicillin was made in the United Kingdom, but because of WWII, the U.S. played a huge role in the mass producing of penicillin, in other words, turning a life saving grug in low supply into a widely available medicine.
