The Battle of Bunker Hill
June 17,1775
This battle took place on June 17,1775. It was located in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Intelligence reports alerted the Americans that the British, under General Thomas Gage, were planning to control the hills around Boston, including the areas of Dorchester Heights and Charlston, to keep Boston Harbor open to British ships bringing in supplies and trips. Important people in this battle were British Major General William Howe and Brigader General Robert Digot. The saying "don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes," was said in this war. The patriots said that because they were low on ammunition and did not want to shoot unless you see you have a great shot. The significance of this battle was that even though the patriots lost, it gave them major confidence.
This battle was fought on a hill, the patriots where on the top, coming for the town. The British were coming for the bottom and the water. Shown in this picture.
