George Washington (key person #1)
1732-1799
George Washington was Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He served two terms as the first U.S President. During the American Revolution, he led the colonial forces to victory over the British, and became a national hero. His significance was not just his genius on the battlefield, but his ability to keep the struggling Colonial Army together. His troops were poorly trained and lacked food, ammunition, and other supplies.
