The Battle of Saratoga
October 7,1777
The Battles of Saratoga was a series of military conflicts fought during September and October 1777. British and Hessian troops surrendered their arms. General John Burgoyne had lost 86 percent of his expeditionary force that marched in to New York, Canada in the summer of 1777. During the summer of 1776, a powerful British army invaded the New York City area. His troop defeated General George Washington's forces. This war held significance, because it convinced the French of American strength which persuaded the French to support the Americans with the military aid.
Basically, in this war, the French told the Patriots to win a battle, and they would help them fight the British. So, they won this battle, and the French came to help, the French were the main reason on how they won the war.
