Irony

Irony is a literary technique, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character. An example of irony can be found in "Cask of Amontillado". Fortunado's name sounds a lot like the word "fortunate", ends up being quite ironically un-fortunate. Montresor even takes part in this irony for when he first approaches Fortunado he says "My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met." Even though he is plotting to kill him.
