- it is a fungus (Tinea pedis) infection usually in the skin of the toes and soles

- symptoms include itching, stinging, and burning between the toes and on the soles of the feet, blisters on the feet that itch, etc.

- it is usually goes away within a few weeks with treatment but can occasionally last for months 

- the fungus is not genetic but some people are prone to get the disease because of a genetic predisposition 

- antifungal medications and keeping the foot dry and clean typically cause the disease to go away 

- appropriate to its name, typically athletes or people near damp shared places will get the fungus

- the disease can make it difficult or painful to walk on the affected feet
