Carbuncle

- it is a severe abscess or multiple boil in the skin, typically infected with staphylococcus bacteria 

- symptoms are red, swollen, painful clusters of boils, fever, fatigue

- need to seek treatment if it lasts longer than two weeks, is treatable, can cause scarring if not treated 

- treatment includes keeping the area covered and clean, pus will need to be let out by a doctor

- it is not genetic

- older people or obese people or people with poor hygiene are more likely to develop carbuncles, also people who share a lot of items with others (i.e., college students)

- nearby tissue can become swollen and lymph nodes can swell
