One major impact was that sugar plantations cause the need for them to bring slaves over into the Americas which caused a change in the demographics of the US and introduced Slavery to the Americas. Sugar also made the Americas very wealthy and they used the sugar for trading which they gained ,ate risks that they didn't have access to which helped them improve and take big strides in their level of development.
