The Premier Choir

In the beginning there was treble, in the middle there was the beginning and at the end was the premier. That is the history of 9th grade mixed entry choir.

For more than 30 years our entry level choir was called “treble choir.” To this day our official catalog calls it treble choir. The trouble with the treble is that it begins with the basses. Treble refers to the clef where most unchanged and women’s choir sing. But we have a healthy dose of men in our 9th grade choir. So now what?

A few years ago we began to reference the choir as “beginning choir.” However, as you can tell and as is clear listening to our middle school choirs this is not a beginning choir. They are far along in their choral education.

We have begun the process to submit a new course for consideration, it will be called “The Premier Choir.” The title is a nod to it’s place in the sequence of choirs and also how accomplished these young singers are.

We are so grateful to Angelina Fitzhugh, Monica Covitt, and Brittney Kerby for their excellence as music educators. Without them we would be in treble. I mean trouble.
