Loading Flow
First Position:
legs shoulder width apart
knees slightly bent
center weight
standing behind client
arms in front
elbows straight
Lunge:
non-dominant leg forward
dominant leg back and slightly turned out
(used to lower body to get straight on view of hair cut)
Crossover 1:
start in first position
widen stance bigger than shoulders
stand diagonal behind client
leaning into cutting
left leg is bent
right leg is extended
Crossover 2:
standing diagonal
non-dominant leg across and in front of dominant leg
dominant leg is back, with foot turned slightly out
(feet at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock)
The Step:
start in first position, standing behind guest
one foot remains stationary
while other foot steps out (side to side motion)
Palm to Palm:
-both hands are facing each other while cutting
-when cutting vertical or diagonal: best way to maintain control of subsection (especially with regard to elevation/overdirection)
-helps prevent strain on your back
Below the Fingers:
-used for making a blunt cut or heavy graduated cut
-used while making a horizontal cutting line
Over the Fingers:
-used most often when cutting uniform or increasing layers or
