battle of yorktown
This was the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. French and American armies united an began moving south toward Virginia. Lord Cornwallis drove General Washington's Patriot forces out of New Jersey. It wasn't successful and the British had to surrender. The Patriots victory at Yorktown affectively ended fighting in the American colonies. Peace negotiations began and the treaty of Paris was signed.
The Patriots won the battle and it was fought on October 19, 1781.
