Rall had received warnings of colonial movements, his men were exhausted and unprepared. General Washington's attack came out of nowhere. Rall tried to rally his troops but he never established a defensive perimeter. After the Battle of Trenton, Patriots took prisoners, but withdrew them after winning the Battle of Princeton.

The battle of Trenton was fought on December 26, 1776. The Patriots won.
