Treatments

Standard Chemotherapy such as CHOP. The only issue with this treatment is while patients ALK-positive ALCL respond positively to chemotherapy. ALK-negative seems to relapse within five years of treatment. If relapsed patients are prescribed a higher dose of chemotherapy. Primary Cutaneous is treated with radiation therapy if it's localized and systemic chemotherapy if its in multiple are of the skin. Also, surgery to remove affected the area of the skin. Usual chemotherapy side effects low blood counts, mouth sores, nausea, diarrhea, and/or hair loss. Radiation effects include hair loss, skin irritation or urinary problems

Chemotherapy is able to stop tumor growth by damaging the RNA or DNA that tell the cell how to copy itself in cell division. This allows it to halt cell division ones the cancer cells can no longer divide they die. This cause the tumor to shrink. Radiation therapy kills cancer cells by damaging DNA directly or creating charged particle that damage DNA. Cancer cells whose DNA is damaged stop dividing and die. These cells are eliminated.
