Which Cancer?Why is it important
Lymphoma it's a cancer that affects the white blood cells called lymphocytes. This affects the immune system. The lymph tissue is found all over the body. This causes lymphoma to be able to happen anywhere. Lymphoma develops when the white blood cells(lymphocytes) and lymph cells grow and multiply uncontrollably. There is two type of lymphomas Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma(NHL). NHL forms different types of white blood cells this are the B-cells, T-cells, and NK cells. If the NHL is indolent its slow growing and if its aggressive its fast growing. Anaplastic large cell lymphoma(ALCL) is a rare type of NHL and its aggressive T cell lymphoma. This means that its fast growing. ALCL can appear systematic which is through the body or cutaneous which is the skin. Patients with ALCL are subdivided in two groups ALK negative and ALK positive. Cutaneous is less aggressive than systematic. ALK is a gene that provides instructions to make anaplastic lymphoma kinase.Anaplastic lymphoma is believed to help regulate division of nerve cells.
