Why did people travel to California?

People traveled to the Calfornia Gold rush for the economic incentives it had to offer. People pursued the American dream, hoping to strike it rich. As soon as a success story came through, those people would go crazy. Many people knew there was little chance of striking it rich through gold, instead they would sell goods to the miners, which were very valuable. They also hoped there was land they could settle in. There were many reasons people came to California.
