Woman

Many woman in the war was strong to replace many of the men's jobs while they were at war. Some would make clothing for soldiers and others managed the farms, shops, and businesses along with their natural duties like keeping the household in check.

The Role of Woman in the Revolutionary War

During the war woman, would serve as nurses to assist the doctors taking care of wounded soldiers. Nurses would take care of hundreds of sick and wounded men during the war that would be to much for just 1 or 2 doctors at the time.

Sometimes woman would serve in the battle. One example would be Mary Ludwig Hays McCauly who, took her husband's place in the Battle of Monmouth after he collapsed.
