Peter Lalor's early life
Peter Lalor was born in Ireland in 1827. While he was young he experienced the potato famine. He survived along with others of his family. In October 1852 he moved to Australia with his brother, Richard, hoping to find work and experience a better life than he had in Ireland. He started working on the Geelong-Melbourne railway with Richard. He then decided to join in the gold rush, but Richard did not go with him. He started at Owens Valley and then moved to Ballarat in search of more gold.
