Cochise
Cochise was a well known Apache leader and resistance fighter against the military invasions.
In 1861 he was wrongfully accused of rustling and kidnapping and was tricked into an US Army camp. He cut his way out of the tent and fled, creating a legacy still remembered today.
He was the son in law of Mangas Coloradas and after fighting for years to avenge his death he befriended a white man, Tom Jeffords, and was able to negotiate for peace between his tribe of Apaches and the US.
He died in 1874 and is buried in a place now called Cochise Stronghold.
