How do the circulatory and the respiratory system work together?

They work together to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body.

1. the carbon dioxide-rich blood flows from the superior and inferior vena cava through the right atrium

2. flows into the right ventricle and is pumped out through the pulmonary artery, which leads to the lungs

3. in the lungs, the blood drops off the carbon dioxide and picks up the oxygen

4. the oxygen-rich blood leaves the lungs through the pulmonary vein to the left atrium

5. goes into the the left ventricle where it is pumped out to the body through the aorta
