Phenomenal women
By:maya angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
but when I start to tell them,
they think I'm telling lies.
I say,
it’s in the reach..........

Commentary:
This poem perfectly expresses how I feel right now. Im not the pretty one in this poem, im the one asking for the beauty secret. I get jealous of my pretty friends and wonder why cant I be beautiful like them? Why am I not gifted with natural beauty? Thoughts like that rush through my head and really make me wonder and hate. I chose this because it expresses what I feel everyday. It makes me sad to read this because it reminds me of what I feel everyday but its good to be reminded that we are all beautiful in our own way. I truly want to believe that not just for me but for others as well. Its quite a short poem but it portrays a lot of meaning through the simple words and it hits me like a ton of bricks. People who are pretty don’t get it for us non-pretty ones, how we desire to be like them. They think its just the way it is but its not, its much more than that. I wish I was like them and I yearn to have their beauty but I have to believe that every girl is beautiful in their own way, yeah im trying.
