Maya Civilization Declines

The Maya began to collapse in the 900s. People stopped building and moved back to the countryside. There are theories of how this civilization ended. One states that increased warfare brought the end of the Classic Age. Another theory is that the Maya could not grow enough food to feed everyone. Growing the same crops year after year could've weakened the soil. Competition for land increased and so did war. Another cause could be the demands the Maya kings made on their people. They were forced to build temples or farm for them. They might have rebelled and left the cities. Some think climate is at fault. They suffered long dry periods and droughts for about 150 years. They moved because it would be hard to grow crops.
