After the Russian Civil War, which lasted from 1918 to 1922, many persons were displaced and found refuge in Australia, where they brought their faith and viewed the Russian Orthodox Church as a symbol of their motherland, that acted in creating a unified community that was proud of their heritage and purpose.

The Russian Catholic Church understands itself to be the Russian Orthodox Church, as it was during the 19th century that the church realised it needed to be in communion with the Universal Church.
