The climate in Laos can be described as a tropical monsoon climate. It is characterized by strong monsoon influences, has a considerable amount of sun, a high rate of rainfall, and high humidity.

The most occurring natural hazards are floods, droughts, and different types of epidemics. Monsoons are also a major cause of floods in Laos. Damages caused by flooding and landslides can be devastating to the community.
