North Atlantic Treaty Organization, also called NATO was founded in 1949 by the United States. It is a military and economic alliance between member countries. The U.S. created NATO as an opposition to Soviet aggression. One of the two military blocs during the Cold War.

Warsaw Pact was a military and economic alliance between communist states founded in 1955. It was created by the Soviet Union as a countermeasure to NATO. There were seven member states. Rivaled NATO, and was the second military bloc during Cold War.
