Alexander II of Russia was the Czar of Russia.
He was born in Moscow on April 17, 1818. Alexander was the eldest son of Nicholas I of Russia and Charlotte of Prussia. He had four brothers and six sisters.
His education as heir apparent was extremely important. His education was controlled by Vasily Zhukovsky, who was a liberal romantic poet. He was also a renowned translator. Alexander the second was educated in everything from european language to military affairs ,which he was allegedly had very little interest for. As part of his education he travel to Western European countries.
On 16 April 1841, aged 23, Tsarevitch Alexander married Princess Marie of Hesse in St Petersburg, thereafter known in Russia as Maria Alexandrovna. Alexander ii was coronation 7 September 1855. His marriage produced eight children, six sons and two daughters. Six of his eight children were born before is coronation on 7 September 1855. He also had
seven illegitimate children.
Alexander's only known
family was his dog Milford,
who was said to be a red
and black Irish Setter.
Alexander was know to
walk Milford through the
Summer Garden of Saint
Petersburg.
