In 1867 he sold Alaska to the United States for $7 million (roughly $200 million in current dollars) after recognising the massive cost and effort to defend it from Canada
Alexander ii manger to escape assassination in 1866, in 1867, twice in 1879, and in 1880. He was finally assassinated On 13 March , 1881 in Saint Petersburg.
Alexander's bureaucracy instituted an elaborate scheme of local self-government called zemstvo for the rural districts in 1864 and the large towns in 1870
The final document was approved and signed on 3 March 1861, six years after his death .
Significant Accomplishments
Emancipation of the serfs-
sons of all the "estates," rich and poor, had to serve in the military. Also he set up an army reserve.
