Vassals and Lords

A vassal and lords relationship was based on their exchange of land for loyalty and military service. There was an exchange of pledges called a Feudal Contract. A lord gave his vassal a fief and promised to protect the vassal. A vassal pledged his loyalty to his lord and would promise 40 days of military service every year. They also gave money and advice to their lord.
