Florida/Spanish session 1819
The Florida/Spanish Session 1819. James Monroe purchased the territory from Spain for $5 million. But don't be fooled, it didn't only include Florida. Bits of present day Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana were mixed in.
Here's how they acquired the land. So there were some American settlers in Florida, and around 1810 they decided to rebel against the rule of Spain. President James Madison jumped in and took this chance to seize the land.
