SIGNIFICANCE AND BEHAVIOR

- Lampreys are significant because they are not only living fossils, but act as a part of the food chain, swallowing up the blood of other animals, sometimes killing them or letting them be picked off by other animals.

- This balances populations, in a sense, by allowing the weak to be devoured.

- Lampreys are primarily solitary, and usually only gather to mate.
