- Lampreys are in the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Subphylum Vertebrata and Class Hyperoartia.

- They are in the Group Hyperoartia.

- There are an estimated thirty species of Lamprey. Three examples are the Sea Lamprey (Petromyzon marinus,) the European River Lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis,) and the American Brook Lamprey (Lampetra appendix.)
