In 1850 fewer than 13,000 people lived in TX towns. Galveston was the most populated town, and the states most developed port and trade center, but by 1860 San Antonio became the largest town in TX. San Antonio had many German immigrants. Houston became the third largest town and a important rail center. Austin became the Capitol, and states political center. Most buildings were made from log and timber.
