The Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty between the Allied Powers and Germany. The Allied Powers consisted of Britain, France, Italy, USA and Japan. Germany was forced to sign the treaty. The treaty consisted of many points. First, Germany assumed full blame for causing the war. Second, Germany had to pay huge reparations for damage and soldier pensions. The total came out to over $30 billion. The treaty also limited the size of the German army. It returned Alsace and Lorraine to France. France had lost Alsace and Lorraine to Prussia, which became Germany, during the Franco-Prussian war. Territory was removed from Western and Eastern Germany. Lastly, Germany stripped of all oversea colonies. Even though the treaty severely impacted Germany, many countries and people were displeased with the side effect of the treaty. The Treaty of Versailles was signed 28 June 1919.
