~A Caste System is a social group in which people are born into and can rarely get out of.
~The Caste System was very close to Hindu beliefs. The Hindus thought that belonging to a different caste was like belonging to another species. The higher you are on the pyramid, the closer you are to reaching moksha.
~Each caste had there own leader and a specific job.
~The members of a caste always worked together to help each other.

~The Caste System was a way of ensuring spiritual purity. The caste rules governed every aspect of life-for example, where people lived, what they ate, how they dressed, and their job occupation.
~The caste rules did not allow people to marry outside of their caste or to eat with someone outside of their caste.
~The untouchables, or Dalits, were feared by the upper castes. The upper castes thought that an untouchable would pollute them if they came in contact, therefore, the untouchables had to carry a wooden horn around and blow it whenever they approached, so people would know to stay away.
