Martin Luther
Martin Luther was a priest. He added his voice to the call for reform. He nailed his list of complaints to the door of a church. His list is called the Ninety-Five Theses. Luther became excommunicated because of the list and was called a heretic. Some helped Luther and those who helped him became known as Protestants. They followed his teachings and were known as Lutherans. Luther wrote pamphlets, essays, and songs about his ideas, many in German.
