Clarissa (Clary) Fray
Clary is the main protagonist. When she goes to the Pandemonium she hardly expects to witness a murder no one else can see. The next day she gets a call from her mom telling her NOT to come home, and her mom is kidnapped. Clary learns she is a ShadowHunter now she has to find her mom and probably sabe the world.

Jace Wayland
Jace is a ShadowHunter. He is spotted by Clary at the Pandemonium when he kills a demon. Interested in why she can see him he watches her. He soon learns she is like him. When they learn Valentine is back and he wants the mortal cup they have to find it before he does, and save Clary's mom.

Valentine Morgenstern
Valentine is the main antagonist. He is Clary's father but tricks jace into believing that he is also his father. Valentine was the leader of a group called The Circle until they fell apart in a battle. Valentine wants the Mortal Cup. The Mortal Cup is what created all ShadowHunters he believes that he can turns humans into people like him. Jocelyn took the Mortal Cup and left now nearly 15 years later he wants the cup back, and he will do anything to get it. When he kidnaps Joceyln he knows Clary will try and find her, and he uses that to try and get cup.
