Announcing Flowboard for Mac 1.0

After almost a year of hard work by our dedicated team, we are pleased to announce the launch of FlowVella for Mac 1.0.

FlowVella for Mac is made specifically for Mac OSX, but is 100% inspired by FlowVella for iPad’s simple, beautiful and intuitive design. With FlowVella for Mac, we have added several key new features while optimizing FlowVella for the Mac experience that Mac users expect.

We have added these new features to FlowVella for Mac:

Shapes

Now you can create shapes; rectangles, rounded rectangles, circles, triangles, arrows and more. You can position these anywhere on the screen, adjust size and color. We have started with X shapes for now, but plan on adding a few more. We will probably never have as many as other tools because we strive for simplicity and frankly, you probably don’t need all the options that some other tools allow. You can’t create shapes on the iPad version yet, but we hope to add that functionality soon.

Full Color Wheel and Opacity

It has been requested often and it’s finally here. FlowVella is integrated with the Mac’s standard color options allowing users to choose any color under the sun. We also have implemented opacity (transparency) which will allow you to add great effects layering shapes on top of other objects.

Rich Text

Rich text almost didn’t make it to 1.0, but we know how important it is to have that bold word in the midst of sentence. Or, if you want to change a color or font face or size. Instead of each text block being uniform, the same font size, color and type, you have complete control of every character. FlowVella for iPad supports reading and viewing rich text, and while you can’t currently edit rich text, that’s coming soon too. And speaking of text, we wanted to be as transparent as possible about fonts and our selection and why, please read this post on fonts.

Vimeo Videos

FlowVella attracts some creative people and lots of creative people choose to put their videos on Vimeo. Adding Vimeo to FlowVella has been a request since the day we launched, and today it’s a reality. You can embed Vimeo videos into Flows by adding the URL. (Pro tip: you can just add the ID of the video and that will work as well.) Vimeo videos auto play in their own window, but we are considering alternatives as well. At this time, you can only add Vimeo videos on the FlowVella for Mac application and view on the web or within the FlowVella for iPad app. We do plan on adding the ability to add Vimeo videos to FlowVella for iPad soon.

Dimensions, XY Palette and 1/10 Pixel Nudging

In order to create pixel perfect creations, you need to be able to know exactly where objects are on the screen and adjust them. We have a new menu that shows the height and width of every object as well as its position on the screen. Objects can be made smaller or larger or moved by changing values in the menu. After an object is selected, it can be moved one pixel at a time by using the arrow keys. By holding down the ‘shift key’ and hitting the arrow keys, the object moves 10 pixels at a time.

Mac Keyboard Commands Like a Boss

FlowVella for Mac supports all kinds of keyboard commands that Mac users will expect. Copy, paste, select all, shift click on a second, third, fourth object to move together. You can copy an image from a web browser or Preview or almost any program and paste into FlowVella (yes!!). By looking at the menus, you can see the commands, and we made this pretty PDF (made in FlowVella) that has them all.

Pricing – Yes, FlowVella for Mac is a Paid App

Please read this post on pricing and updates to ‘free’ accounts. We have invested a ton to make FlowVella for Mac and instead of pursuing the ‘freemium’ model, it is a paid application. But, guess what? We will continue to do free updates without forcing an upgrade or buying a new version for a long, long time. The launch price is $9.99 and it will go up after we sell the first 10,000 copies. We have ‘bundled’ some premium features from the iPad app into the Mac app like export to PDF, printing and have added features mentioned above like shapes, full color, rich text that go far beyond the iPad capabilities.

There are probably more new features, but those are the big ones. We are so excited to bring FlowVella to the Mac and be the first presentation software ever (yeah I said ever) to be made for mobile (iPad/tablet) and then ported to a desktop/Mac application.
