Hawaiian Monk Seal Hospital
The Marine Mammal Center (TMMC) was opened in 1975, and has rescued more than 17,500 sick, injured, and orphaned marine mammals. TMMC has led important scientific research and is now applying their knowledge to
help with the recovery and care of Hawaiian monk seals. This hospital will include rehabilitation areas for newborn seals, larger pens and pools, a quarantine area, medical facilities, and a patient food preparation kitchen. TMMC is also planning to set up volunteer and education groups to support the hospital, and to use this to teach and advance local cultural and conservation initiatives.
