3rd Century B.C. Art

Source: www.metmuesem.com

Belt Plaque with Mythological Creature, Chinese, 3rd Century B.C.

Description

Analyze

Interpret

A rectangular, tarnished Chinese silver belt plaque that depicts some form a hoofed animal. The texture is rough due to its age.

I believe this piece was created with the intention to honor the creator's religion.

The curved lines at the hindquarters help create visual interest.

The use of actual line makes the belt plaque look clean.

Adding grooves into it adds depth to the piece.

The repetition of swirling lines along the border creates a sense of harmony which aids in making the piece attractive.
