Entry #4 February 4, 507 BCE
Fortunately, Romeo received medical help from a slave whom had a rich education in medicine and science. His name was Julian and he was forty-six years old. When the Roman Republic was formed, and previous territories were taken over, people (including him) were captured and used as slaves in our current society. Without the slaves, our Roman Republic would not function correctly because of all the labor and hard work that they contribute. For example, all the farming done on the large land masses owned by patricians was done by slaves.
Julian was a Spartan long ago, whose family escaped the tough military life after his parents gave birth to a baby boy who was weak. Instead of having their weak son left on a hill to die, they devised a plan to escape Sparta and find a new home. The family's new home happened to be on one of the seven hills that are now the Roman Republic's territory. Julian's father was a well respected man in Sparta, with a fantastic reputation in the military for not only his battle skills, but also his medical treatment skills. He then passed these extraordinary medical skills to Julian, which made him able to heal Romeo's lead poisoning.
Finding a way to sneak Julian into our home was difficult, but we managed. It would've been shameful for our family to be seen receiving help from a slave. Many people looked down on slaves, not because their race, but because of their social status. My whole family and I are very thankful for Julian, and we will find a way to repay him.
