Entry #5 November 30, 451 BCE
Greetings. My names is Cassian Jr., and I am the great grandson of the original author of this journal. I found it buried under some dirt in the house of the large farm handed down to my family by my grandfather Atticus, Cassian Sr.'s son. It seems to me as if a lot has changed since the last journal entry was written. Just this year a new written code of laws was created, making a more equal balance of power among the patricians and plebeians of Ancient Rome.
This new written code of law is called the Twelve Tables. The reason these new laws were made is because the plebeians went on strike and demanded more power in the Roman Republic. These people left their farms or their army duties and sat on the Palatine Hill. A compromise was proposed by the patricians, which was this written code of law called the Twelve Tables. After these twelve laws were carved into stone tablets, they were hung up on the walls of the Forum, the political, commercial, and judicial center of the Romans.
Rome as a republic is slowly growing and developing. Power is starting to become more equally distributed among the social classes. Due to my age of eighteen, I am able to vote and take part in the assembly, and one day when my father passes away, I will inherit his position in the Senate. There is a girl on my mind though...if only she wasn't a plebeian.
